C.L.I. Energy Star Procedures

(A) The Pre-Construction Certification Process

EPA Energy Star® Homes Qualification for a "to be built" home is generally a Three Part Process.

- Part One is a building plans evaluation using the nationally approved REM/Rate HERS software.
- Part Two is a mid-construction site-visit.
- Part Three is the Final Inspection and Blower Door Testing of the completed dwelling.

Contact us at 440-946-7191

PART ONE - Pre-Construction Plans Evaluation.

The Part One - Pre-Construction Plans Evaluation Fee includes a written report estimating how the completed dwelling units will perform based on the information supplied, and will provide suggestions as to what features might be included in the completed project for it to meet the Energy Star® Homes standards. Once a floor plan is modeled in REM/Rate, there is no extra charge to do “What If” scenario's to help you find the best balance of energy features that meets your needs.

(Pricing is based on the Square Footage of the Conditioned Living Space of your home, including basement if conditioned)

0sf to 3,500 sf of living space.......................................$225
3,501sf to 4,500 sf of living space.................................$275
4,501 sf to 5,500 sf of living space ...............................$325
5,501sf to 7,500 sf of living space.................................$375

- Payment for Part One is due when the Plans are submitted for Review.

Please Note: The plans evaluation process is for guidance purposes only and does not guarantee that the completed dwelling will be certified as an Energy Star® labeled home. It is not until the structure is completed and a final Rater inspection and Blower Door test have been performed that the actual Home Energy Rating System (HERS) score can be determined for that dwelling.

PART TWO - Mid-Construction Site-Visit.

All homes - any size ................................................. (1/2 of Remaining Balance)
Pricing for Multi-Unit Projects Provided On Request.

- Payment for Part Two is due at the time of this Site Visit.
- Travel Time will be charged for homes further than 50 miles (round trip) from C.L.I. office.

PART THREE - Completed Dwelling Inspection/Blower Door Test.

Single Family Homes

All homes - any size ................................................. (Remainder of Balance)
Pricing for Multi-Unit Projects Provided On Request.
- Payment for Part Three is due at the time of the Final Site Visit.
- Travel Time will be charged for homes further than 50 miles (round trip) from C.L.I. office.

( All Prices valid through June 1, 2006 )

This fee includes a Written Report and Certificate for the Homebuyer, Builder, Architect, Lender, and Real Estate Professional - documenting that the completed dwelling scored 86 points or higher on the HERS scale and meets the EPA Energy Star® Home labeling standards. It also includes a EPA Energy Star® Homes sticker to be attached to the electrical box. (if available)

(B) The Completed Home Certification Process
Completed homes can also be evaluated to see if they meet the Energy Star® Homes performance standards.

This is generally a Two Part Process.

- Part One is a On-Site Inspection, Data Collection, and Blower Door Pressure Diagnostic Testing of the home.
- Part Two is using that information to model the home "As Built" in the HERS Software to determine if it meets EPA Energy Star Homes standards.

The Combined Fee for Part One & Part Two for a Single Family Home is as follows:

(Pricing is based on the Square Footage of the Conditioned Living Space of your home)

0sf to 3,500 sf of living space...................................... $575
3,501sf to 4,500 sf of living space.................................$675
4,501 sf to 5,500 sf of living space ...............................$700
5,501 sf to 7,500 sf ...................................................$750
Pricing for Multi-Unit Projects Provided On Request.

- Payment is due at the time of the Site Visit and Blower Door Testing.

( Prices valid through June 1, 2006 )

Please Note: This evaluation process is for guidance purposes only and does not guarantee that the completed dwelling will be certified as an Energy Star® labeled home. If the home does not score 86 or higher on the HERS Scale this fee includes “What If” scenario's if needed to determine the most practical and cost effective ways to bring it up to Energy Star® Homes standards.

Benefits of owning an ENERGY STAR qualified new home include:

bullet

A Label Backed by the Government – All ENERGY STAR qualified new homes are certified to meet EPA’s strict guidelines for energy efficiency.  This exemplary performance is verified by an independent third party.

bullet

Lower Utility Costs – Compared with standard homes, ENERGY STAR qualified new homes use substantially less energy for heating, cooling, and hot water heating.  Homeowners can expect to save about $200-$400 annually on their utility bills.

bullet

More Comfortable/Quieter Homes – The energy-efficient features of ENERGY STAR qualified new homes keep out excessive heat, cold, and noise, and ensure consistent temperatures between and across rooms—making these homes more comfortable to live in.

bullet

Helping to Create a Better Future – By purchasing an ENERGY STAR qualified new home, you are joining millions of consumers who have changed to ENERGY STAR, helping our nation reduce our energy needs and building a cleaner environment for the future.

Features of an ENERGY STAR qualified new home include:

bullet

Increased Insulation – Improved and effective use of insulation helps achieve even temperatures throughout the house while using less energy.  The result is lower utility costs and a quieter, more comfortable home.

bullet

High-performance Windows – High-performance windows help keep heat in during winter and out during summer.  They also block damaging ultraviolet sunlight that can discolor carpets and furniture.

bullet

Tight Construction and Tight Ducts – Tight ducts and tight construction help eliminate drafts, moisture, dust, pests, and pollen.  This improves comfort and the quality of indoor air, while lowering maintenance costs.

bullet

Energy-efficient Heating and Cooling Equipment – More efficient and properly installed heating and cooling systems use less energy, which reduces utility bills.  These systems also turn on and off less frequently, removing more humidity and providing better comfort.
